REGATRON Power Sources for Railway Applications

REGATRON's programmable and modular power supplies are used all over the world at all levels of the railway industry. There are many reasons for the widespread use of REGATRON test equipment in this industry.

REGATRON's precisely engineered, high quality power supply solutions are perfectly tailored to customers' requirements and are built very efficiently based on a modular design. The customized power supply typically consists of the following components:

  • Technologically advanced, compact 19-inch power supply units
  • System modularity with digital master-slave interconnection
  • Project-specific selection of options and accessories
  • Powerful application software and APIs
  • Individual, project-specific system integration on request

The following few application examples show which REGATRON features guarantee a successful and safe execution of tests on electrical and electronic equipment in rail vehicles such as locomotives, traction vehicles and passenger coaches.

Railway vehicles have many electrical circuits which must be regularly tested and operationally verified as part of comprehensive technical revisions. To protect personnel from electrical hazards and to prevent further damage in the event of component failure, the on-board batteries are disconnected during these tests. As a battery replacement, REGATRON's programmable power supplies offer great advantages such as fast current limitation. In the event of a short circuit or component failure, the current is immediately limited to a safe value or a safe shutdown is performed, protecting life and material.

The testing of on-board inverters, electric door drives, air conditioning, lighting, signal and audio equipment is also an important field of application. REGATRON power supplies allow easy and safe testing of the on-board system under different voltage conditions by using an integrated function generator. The simulation of the battery's internal resistance is also available at the push of a button.

Another important area of application focuses on the battery. Thanks to highly specialized application software for battery simulation and battery testing/maintenance/cycling, railway carriage batteries can be conveniently tested, charged/discharged or replaced for on-board system tests.
