More Future – with Modular Power Supplies from REGATRON!
The future belongs to electrical energy – both in the field of higher voltages and very high currents, these areas of application are constantly expanding. Adapt your power supplies to this development: REGATRON modular Power Supply Systems are at home across the entire playing field thanks to their sophisticated architecture.
The Advantages at a Glance
- Achieve high voltages up to 3000 V by series connections
- Work with incredible currents in the low voltage range
- Benefit from matrix circuits in the medium voltage range
- Split your system into autonomous individual devices or device groups
- Use the sophisticated DC-output bridge design for easy module connection
- When speed is an issue: fully automatic system switching available
Application Example: 324 kW DC Power Supply with REGATRON G5 Base Units
The 324 kW system shown in Figure 1 consists of six 54 kW / 500 V base units, which can be connected in parallel, in series, and in a mixed parallel/series configuration (matrix arrangement). This offers the user an impressive current-voltage working range of around 2000 A at a base voltage of 500 V in parallel and 3000 V in serial master-slave configuration.
The four connection options are as follows:
- 324 kW / 500 V / 1944 A
- 324 kW / 1000 V / 972 A
- 324 kW / 1500 V / 648 A
- 324 kW / 3000 V / 324 A
The interaction of the individual modules in the various configurations requires, on the one hand, the adjustment of the individual controller parameters and, on the other hand, the setup of the desired DC circuit on the output side. What sounds like tricky adjustments and conductor manipulation is extremely simple thanks to sophisticated software and configuration support!
- The G5.Control operating and service software offers intuitive programming of the desired configuration. With the aid of the graphical display, the position and interconnection of the network participants can be easily defined and controlled. The user connects the PC software to the master unit via USB or LAN, and the master unit takes over the complete configuration and communication process with the slave units.
- The various connection types can be configured directly via the DC switch panel using the contact bridges supplied. The robust design allows for multiple reconfiguration and generous connection cross-sections, suitable even for very high currents. At the same time, it avoids unsightly and confusing “wire tangles” with cables of different lengths and unmanageable cross-sections.
The Comfort Solution: Automation of the DC-Switchover
The Remote Switching Configuration unit RSC offers even faster and much easier switching of power modules. It enables preprogrammed switching operations to be carried out remotely and automatically via power contactors. The core of this system extension is a programmable logic controller that drives the switching operations and monitors them independently. With the help of the automatic switchgear, the change from one configuration to a completely different one takes only a few seconds. No cables need to be reconnected in the G5 modules or at the control level: The perfect conditions for using the system for fully automated test runs and sequences.
The RSC unit can adapt configuration types (parallel, series, mixed), split the device network into smaller power units, and route the power to different test stations. Power is supplied at the test stations via PDU units (Power Distribution Unit). The remote switching unit is controlled via a touch display or can be operated via the automation test system using a variety of interfaces.
