Introducing G5.ECAT: New EtherCAT Interface Available for REGATRON’s G5 Family of Programmable DC Power Supplies
To meet the increasing requirements on interfaces and communication protocols for the seamless integration of test benches and automation systems, REGATRON has developed the new G5.ECAT interface.
With the progressive use of REGATRON’s versatile G5 DC Power Supplies in highly dynamic research, development, and test applications, the need for a fast and reliable data link between the control structure and the DC Power Supply has increased significantly.
The new and advanced G5.ECAT interface enables easy configuration of a new EtherCAT network or seamless integration into an existing one. G5.ECAT not only ensures increased flexibility, but also enables the transfer of large amounts of data in a single cycle. With a customizable communication protocol, G5.ECAT allows users to tailor the interface to their specific requirements and adapt to the evolving needs.
The G5.ECAT interface is fast, efficient, and reliable, simplifying the integration process and improving performance in demanding applications.
Key Features & Functionality
- EtherCAT protocol configurable via an EtherCAT Master by the user
- ESI file (EtherCAT Slave Information file) describes the configurable communication data
- Transmission rates of up to 1 kHz
- Transmission of the entire process data in the same cycle:
- Commands
- Actual states
- Actual values
- Setpoints
- Acyclic communication via mailbox:
- Nominal system values
- Controller, Protect and Multi-unit device settings
- Incidents (errors, warnings, incidents)
- Analog and digital inputs and outputs
- System reset
- EtherCAT field bus based on industrial real-time ethernet technology
- Tested with EtherCAT Conformance Test Tool (CTT) ET9400 from Beckhoff

Hardware
The sockets for connecting the G5 Power Supply to an EtherCAT network are part of the standard interface. The EtherCAT communication is licensed and must be enabled. Retrofitting in the field of already delivered devices is possible.
The G5.ECAT interface can be ordered and is expected to be available at the end of Q3/2023.
