Applications and Features

The accuracy and dynamics in both constant voltage and constant current mode of the TC.GSS series, as well as the ability to easily change between different multi-unit configurations, make this series the ideal power supply solution for bidirectional R+D tasks and test bench applications such as testing of any power conversion systems (PCS) or testing of converters for energy storage systems (ESS).

For testing inverters, the bidirectional power supply unit can replace and simulate a DC link or energy storage element in the test setup. In addition to stable constant voltage control, the TC.GSS power supply units offer an internal resistance simulation or even a sophisticated programmable battery simulation (BatSim) with dependency on cell chemistry, state of charge, load current, polarization effects, and further parameters. All relevant calculations for the simulation models are performed onboard the power supply unit in real-time. In addition to any time-dependent programming of voltage, current or power, the function generator (TFEAAP) also offers the application area programming feature. This allows to set the DC output voltage or current or power as a function of any of the input values IDC, UDC, or PDC. The functional relationship is given by a user-defined curve whose values are managed by csv import/export. In this way, a wide variety of nonlinear electrical two-pole networks can be defined, for example a fuel cell simulation with a voltage/current dependence. Embedded calculation onboard the TC.GSS assures real-time simulation.

For demanding applications such as testing of drive inverters, Regatron offers the full range of interfaces and safety features. For automotive applications, integration is usually carried out via the CANmp real-time interface with 1 kHz data rate. The TC.GSS modules offer a safety interface (ISR) which provides easy integration into the test bench without the need for costly external DC or AC contactors. TC.GSS modules or systems offer performance level c or e (PL c / e) in accordance with ISO EN 13849-1. In the event of an emergency stop in the test bench, residual energy from the rotating elements should be discharged as quickly as possible. Regatron offers an additional DC discharge unit (DDU) for this purpose, which ensures that the energy is safely discharged via low-ohmic resistors.

REGATRON’s bidirectional und regenerative TC.GSS battery testers provide a multitude of properties making them ideal test units / systems for all kinds of electrical storage elements testing:

  • High current accuracy of 0.05% FS
50 μs charge and energy integration computing cycle
  • High speed CAN data link as interface to test analysis software
  • Industry-proven (RPP) feature prevents reverse-polarities and provides protection from sparks in case of connecting the battery with power supply with unmatched voltage levels and avoid additionally deep discharge at voltage off state
  • Enhanced safety chain driven by the REGATRON (integrated safety relay ISR) feature
  • Maximum flexibility thanks to parallel and even series/mixed mode operation of two or more battery test units
  • Battery testing and cycling software BatControl
  • Turn-key systems tailored to a given test environment. The field-proven battery testers are available as IP20, IP23 and even as IP54 versions, air or liquid cooled, ready to meet specific laboratory requirements

Modular and Easily Scalable Systems

The output of an individual power supply is in the range from 0…32 kW to 0…128 kW or higher, up to 520 VDC. The advantageous modularity of REGATRON power supply solutions allows the system to be easily adapted to ever-changing test requirements. It is possible to reconfigure between parallel, series, and mixed operation. Moreover, the system can be expanded with additional power supply units or may be split into smaller units.
Whether for single devices or powerful multi-unit systems, REGATRON also offers turnkey cabinet solutions or project-specific system integration according to customer specifications.
Therefore, the purchase of a REGATRON power supply is a solid investment for the future.
