G5.BatControl RT: New Battery Test Automation Software for the G5 Platform
Develop battery test sequences faster. Execute them reliably. Capture the data that matters.
REGATRON introduces G5.BatControl RT, a new software platform for battery testing and validation. Designed to simplify test development and execution, G5.BatControl RT combines battery-specific parameter management, intuitive sequence programming, real-time monitoring and intelligent data acquisition in one application.
As battery test automation software for the G5 platform, G5.BatControl RT supports repeatable battery test sequences in one integrated workflow. From capacity and charge/discharge validation to cycle-life, aging, efficiency and endurance testing, G5.BatControl RT supports the testing of battery modules, packs, and complete energy storage systems under real power conditions.
Develop and Validate Battery Test Sequences
Build Complex Charge and Discharge Procedures Without Complex Programming
A block-based sequence editor makes it easy to create customized charge and discharge procedures using predefined process blocks. The battery test sequence software enables engineers to configure and combine predefined process blocks into repeatable test procedures. Users can configure CC, CV, CP, CR, CC-CV and CP-CV processes, define individual termination criteria and combine them into single or repeating test sequences. Complete sequences can be saved and reused, helping engineering teams standardize validation procedures, improve repeatability and reduce development effort.
Battery Parameters and Safety Limits in One Place
The integrated Battery Manager provides a central location for storing battery-specific parameters such as voltage limits, charge and discharge currents, power limits and capacity. Before a test starts, G5.BatControl RT automatically checks sequence parameters against the selected battery definition. This helps identify invalid operating conditions or parameter inconsistencies before they reach the battery under test.

Safety Starts Before the Test: G5.RPP
Battery testing involves high currents and, depending on the system, very high DC voltages. A reversed battery connection or uncontrolled inrush current can put the battery, test equipment and test setup at risk. This is where the G5.RPP Reverse Polarity Protection of the G5.BT Battery Tester Series adds another layer of protection directly in the power hardware.
The integrated protection architecture combines polarity checking, pre-charge and high-impedance standby isolation. Reverse Polarity Protection helps prevent damage caused by incorrect battery wiring, while the pre-charge function matches the G5 system voltage to the device under test before the main contacts are closed, avoiding destructive inrush currents. In standby, high-impedance isolation helps prevent unintended battery discharge.
The result: a controlled battery connection before full power is applied. This is particularly valuable in automated test environments, where repeatability must go hand in hand with protection of the DUT and test equipment.
Execute, Monitor and Record Battery Tests
Reliable Real-Time Test Execution
One of the key advantages of G5.BatControl RT is that test sequences are executed directly on the G5 platform rather than on the host PC. This provides deterministic test execution and allows an ongoing test to continue even if the PC becomes unresponsive or communication with the instrument is temporarily interrupted. Predefined charging and discharging blocks run on the device in a 48 kHz controller loop, while integrated charge and energy counters also operate with 48 kHz sampling.
Real-Time Monitoring and Adaptive Data Logging
The Live Viewer combines real-time visualization with adaptive multi-channel data logging. Instead of recording every signal continuously at a fixed high rate, G5.BatControl RT adapts the recording rate to signal activity. Stable signals can be recorded at a reduced rate, while dynamic events are automatically captured at sampling rates of up to 9.6 kHz. This preserves important transient information while reducing unnecessary data volume. For long-duration tests, measurement data can be stored directly as standard CSV files, making it easy to continue analysis in tools such as MATLAB®, Python or Excel.
One Platform for Advanced Battery Test Automation
Combined with the REGATRON G5.BT Battery Tester Series, G5.BatControl RT creates an integrated environment for demanding battery test applications. The G5.BT provides the bidirectional regenerative power stage, high dynamic performance, modular scalability and integrated protection functions such as G5.RPP, while G5.BatControl RT provides the application layer for creating, validating, executing, monitoring and analyzing battery test procedures. The integrated platform supports battery module testing, battery pack testing and testing of complete energy storage systems.
