The versatile 4-Quadrant AC source TC.ACS with its exceptional programming functions covers a wide range of applications. The requirements with respect to the output power of the AC systems are therefore just as wide-ranging and vary according to the application, test purpose and test object. The latest firmware update now allows 30 kVA and 50 kVA TC.ACS modules to be connected in parallel in any configuration! For example, 80 kVA and 130 kVA systems can be created this way. Mixed mode operation of unequal power units can be used both for new systems and for the expansions of already installed systems.

Modularity and Technology

The modular design based on the 30 or 50 kVA units enables flexible adaptation to the customer’s power requirements. The power blocks up to 150 kVA shown above can be expanded in turn for higher power requirements up to 2000+ kVA. A unique high-speed communication bus controls all slave modules via a master unit and enables consistent dynamics and bandwidth regardless of the number of modules operating in parallel. The systems operate in all four quadrants and are fully regenerative. Single-phase operation with double current down to DC operation is also possible. The TC.ACS inverter technology with its high switching frequency offers a wide output frequency range from DC up to 1000 Hz and an exceptionally high modulation bandwidth of 5 kHz. Therefore, harmonic distortions up to the 100th harmonic at 50 Hz or the 83rd harmonic at 60 Hz can be accurately reproduced, supported by a convenient Fourier Tool for both constant voltage and constant current operation.

TC.ACS Application Areas

  • Grid simulation (GridSim): This operating mode simulates the grid conditions for all types of mains driven power devices, for energy transmission equipment, for studies on the integration of renewable energies, charging technology (e.g. OBC) and energy storage. This mode is supplemented by a recently released, highly interesting Grid Impedance Simulation.
  • Power Hardware-in-the-Loop (P-HIL): Combines physical hardware elements with real-time simulations in a closed control loop and thus enabling the testing of complex energy systems under realistic conditions. REGATRON offers an analogue interface for the TC.ACS units with optimized delay time for setpoint and actual value transmission. In addition, an optical interface with Aurora Protocol will soon be available.
  • Load simulation (Load Mode): Operates as an electronic load in various configurations, including RLC loads, constant current (CC) and constant power (CP), thus supporting special test and measurement requirements. Thanks to the 4-quadrant function, the regenerated energy is fed back into the grid.
  • Complete EMC test solutions: Integrated into a REGATRON EMC test systems, the TC.ACS power supply units can be used for complete EMC emission and immunity tests in accordance with the IEC/EN 61000-3-X and IEC/EN 61000-4-X standards. The associated EMC Test Suite is extremely user-friendly, allowing EMC tests to be carried out easily and efficiently. Measurement, evaluation, and automatic generation of test reports for emission tests (IEC/EN 61000-3-X) are made possible with just one click by the integration of the LMG671 Power Analyzer from ZES Zimmer. Thanks to pre-programmed test sequences and automatic generation of a test report, immunity tests (IEC/EN 61000-4-X) can also be carried out with just one click.
